Alpine Culture

Megève is a traditional Haute-Savoie village with timeless charm, from its cobbled streets to its medieval-style square. For over a century, it has drawn skiers to its 400km of well-maintained slopes. With more than 180 on- and off-piste trails weaving through forests and across gentle ridgelines, the area caters to all levels of experience. In the warmer months alpine hiking and hot air ballooning offer peaceful ways to take in the landscape’s beauty, including sweeping views of Mont Blanc.

At Zannier Le Chalet, every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure our guests experience the highest level of service. Our skilled and attentive team is always on hand to make your stay truly memorable.

Travel Tips

Megève is a year-round destination, each season revealing a different facet of its Alpine charm.

Winter (December to April) is the prime ski season, drawing visitors to nearly 450 km of pristine slopes in the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area. Expect snow-dusted streets, roaring fireplaces, and a festive village atmosphere, with temperatures between -7°C and 3°C. Night temperatures often drop well below freezing.

Summer (June to September) is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, or exploring hidden alpine lakes. The village blooms with floral balconies and weekly markets, offering a more serene and local experience. Temperatures are pleasant and mild, especially in the afternoons, ranging between 20 and 25°C. Evenings are cooler often dipping below 15°C.

Le Chalet is effortlessly accessible from two major international airports:

  • Geneva Airport (GVA) – Approx. 1 hour 15 minutes by car
  • Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) – Approx. 2 hours by car

For train travellers, the Sallanches-Combloux-Megève Station is the closest rail hub, about 20 minutes away by taxi or hotel-arranged transfer. Le Chalet offers luxury chauffeured transfers upon request, ensuring a smooth and scenic arrival. For private aviation, Megève has a small altiport (LFHM) suited to helicopters or light aircraft.

France is part of the Schengen Area, and entry requirements vary by nationality. Here are the main takeaways:

  • EU / EEA / Swiss citizens may enter and stay freely with a valid national ID or passport.
  • UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and most Latin American passport holders do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period (tourism only).
  • Other nationalities may require a Schengen Visa. Applications must be made in advance through the French consulate or official visa application centre in your country of residence.

Starting in mid-2025, travellers from visa-exempt countries will also need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization (a quick online process similar to the US ESTA). Always check the official France visa website for up-to-date requirements, as conditions may vary depending on your nationality and purpose of visit. Note that passports must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
